Oakleigh South and part of Heatherton
If you love open spaces, birds singing and fresh gum-tree infused air, then Oakleigh South is the place to be.
Oakleigh South is home to some internationally renowned golf courses including the Huntingdale Golf Club, Commonwealth Golf Club and the Metropolitan Golf Club.
A green belt for families with its own commercial sector, Oakleigh South has the variety you want from a suburb to keep your family entertained.
The Links Shopping Centre has brought new life to Oakleigh South in recent years and you can’t pass up the Loose Goose Café for all its yummy pastries and sandwiches. You also have many of the family favourites – McDonalds, La Porchetta and Red Rooster.
There are so many fun family activities to enjoy that many other suburbs just don’t have – the Olympic Ice Skating Rink is a Melbourne landmark, while there is a BMX track, first class netball facilities at Dales Park, Sidetracked Entertainment Centre for go-karts and laser tag, the library on Warrigal Road, the South Oakleigh Bowls Club and the charming Talbot Park is apparently the best park for puddle jumping.
The schools have space! South Oakleigh Secondary College and Oakleigh South Primary School are neighbours and have plenty of room for sports and environmental studies. Oakleigh South Primary School is zoned, limited to an intake of 7 prep classes each year, while Huntingdale Primary School is a bilingual school with a Japanese Bilingual Immersion Program that identifies that children’s brains work better when immersed in two languages.
A suburb that holds its own, Oakleigh South has plenty of great things to enjoy.
